Tell me about your career:
I earned my Master’s in Education at the University
of Connecticut in 2000 and I graduated Summa Cum Laude. I am now a 4th
grade teacher in MA.
What are your hobbies?
When I am not teaching or working out, I enjoy giving
hitting lessons for softball players, kickboxing, gymnastics, hanging
out with my family and friends, shopping, going to the movies, and taking
walks on the beach.
How did you get into fitness?
Before I started lifting weights, I participated in
gymnastics, softball, volleyball, and track. I did gymnastics for 10
yrs. and I earned a full softball scholarship to UConn. During high
school, I became involved with lifting weights and all throughout college
I had a training program that was geared towards preparing me for the
softball season. We did a lot of power lifting, and by the end of my
senior year, I was ready to start a program that would tone me down,
rather than bulk me up. I continued to train on my own at a local fitness
gym and several people approached me saying I should compete in fitness.
In 2003, I went to a local fitness show and became addicted. I then
met up with Cathy Savage from Savage Choreography and 2 months later
she had me in my first fitness and figure show. I did the ANBC Yankee
Classic and came in first in both fitness and figure. I then joined
the NPC and have been competing in their federation for the past 1 ½
yrs.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I am currently training for the NPC Team Universe show
which is in August. Here, I hope to earn my Pro Card and take my fitness
career to the next level! I hope to earn some sponsorships and be a
role model to other fitness competitors. I want to actively promote
the sport as a natural athlete. I also hope to earn my personal trainer
certification.
What is your diet for the off-season? What changes
do you make for pre-contest?
I try to have a clean diet throughout the year. Of course,
during my off-season, I have a few more cheat meals and I increase my
carbs. When preparing for a show, I eat a lot of veggies, chicken, turkey
burger, and egg whites. I’ll also have some oatmeal, peanut butter,
sweet potatoes, and rice.
What are your work-outs like?
Currently, when preparing for a show, I do a leg circuit
once a week, back once a week, and shoulders once a week. My arms and
chest get a workout when I practice my fitness routine which I do 3
times a week. Three times a week, I also do 100 step-ups during my weight
training workouts. I train calves and abs twice a week. When I’m getting
close to a show, I up my cardio by going twice a day, 6 days a week,
for about 25 mins. per session. During my off-season, I usually do cardio
4-5 times a week for about 20-30 mins.
What physical features do people compliment
you on the most?
My arms, eyes, and smile.
I would like to thank…
I would especially like to thank all of my family and
friends for their continuous support and for always believing in me.
I would also like to thank my choreographer/friend Cathy Savage for
drawing me into the sport and for giving me the guidance I need for
the fitness world. She immediately got me on stage and creates awesome
fitness routines. I also want to thank Kim Oddo who has created a nutrition
and workout plan that has put me on the road to earning my pro card.
He knows the ins and outs of the sport, and during my shows, he has
me prepared both physically and mentally. I am very lucky to have such
a strong support system all around me
